Active School Week

Active School Week is always a week of fun in our school. Each class gets involved in many of our favourite sports and exercises, and some new ones each year too. See examples of our Active School timetables below.

Each morning the whole school takes part in a shared activity such as ‘Walk a mile with a Smile’, ‘Fit for Five’ or ‘Drop Everything and Dance’. Throughout the day, different classes will get active to a timetabled activity.

Last week we held our Active School Week and it was jam packed with fun activities for all classes to enjoy. As a school we started each morning off by getting ourselves warmed up and moving with ‘Fit for Five’, ‘Wake Up, Shake Up’ and ‘Walk a Mile with a Smile’ exercises. During the week each class had a daily timetabled activity ranging from Hip Hop dancing, Taekwondo, Orienteering challenges, Uni-hoc, Tug-o-war, penalty shoot outs, circuit training and obstacle courses. The infant classes also had a visit from a local Garda to talk about Road Safety and she gave us some high-vis jackets to keep safe when out on the roads. 6th class also gave a presentation to all classes on healthy eating and the food pyramid. We got to taste some delicious fruit skewers too. A big thank you to all teachers and students for their participation over the week. Take a look at some of our pictures below!

We like to try new activities as much as possible. Our timetable from 2017 shows the range of exercises and sports we turned our hand to. We get parents involved throughout the week too to take part in certain activities, and on sports day, with a parent/teacher vs student match!
