New Year, New Active School Challenge!

This January we decided to incorporate ‘Wake Up, Shake Up’ into our school week. This involves the student’s using a beanbag in a number of exercises to focus on getting our whole body moving, which helps with concentration, hand-eye co-ordination and general alertness. Why not try some at home?

Also, Active Arnie is back visiting the homes of our Junior and Senior Infants. Arnie is a teddy who loves to keep active. The children are asked to include Arnie in an activity on the evening they take him home from school and then to draw a picture or write about what they did together to keep active.

‘Climb the Heights’ Skipping Challenge Results – 2016

Well Done to every class for their fantastic efforts in skipping their way to the top of some of Europe’s highest mountains, including

  • Carrantoohill, Ireland (1,041 m)
  • Mount Olympus, Greece (2,919 m)
  • Mont Blanc, France (4, 810 m)

As a school we skipped our way to the top of all 31 of Europe’s Highest Mountains, by skipping, hopping and jumping the equivilant of 1 metre for each jump!

All 31 of Eurpoe’s highest mountains combined have a peak summit of 60,142 metres … We climbed 90, 312 metres!

Another great whole school initiative, another challenge conquered!
