2nd Class had an exciting start to the school year. We played Gaeilge cluichí, investigated how much sugar was in our food, learned how colouring and drawing can be good mindfulness activities and created amazing giraffe portraits.

Things got a little “spook-tacular” as we designed colourful pumpkins, designed our Autumn Cookies, and showed off our most creative costumes for Halloween. We had fantastic STEM activities in our maths fair, building spooky scarecrows and making our own slime.

We blasted off into a “Space” themed month by making our space scenes and making recycled rockets and astronauts. We had our first 365 session in the GAA pitch. We gave Hyrox sessions a go and surveyed the whole school for our maths data unit. We made some robins for the start of our Winter art.

We had a busy December, making funky Santas and decorating the GP room for the festive period. We had hot chocolate down in the village. We had Emily Redmond teach us songs using the handbells. We got to perform this on the radio and national TV!!

We started to learn all about the Winter Olympic Games and created fantastic art of the Olympic torch and rings. We started our length unit in maths and had great fun measuring the class using cubes. We also learned about Chinese New Year traditions and made traditional Chinese lanterns.

We started off spring by creating amazing daffodil scenes and Valentine’s Day art. We learned to find European countries on the map and played in a Chess tournament against Ballycanew NS. We were practising our balancing for our Gymnastics and finished our class book project and sent it off to be printed.

We made some tasty treats with SNA Niamh. We invited the 1st class up for a St. Patrick’s day quiz and ceilí. We had a special visit from Wicklow Willow as part of our Creative Schools partnership. We made an impressive den in the backyard. We finished off March by making our first confession.

It’s been an incredible year so far, and we look forward to preparing for our First Holy Communion in May!
