1st Class

Maths:

In 1st class we have embraced the new maths curriculum with vigour. We love hands-on learning. In autumn we went on a Math’s trail around the school. We also immensely enjoyed the Math’s Fair in the GP room. In our Math’s Power Hour, we have been exploring 3D shapes and assembling constructions, using trundle wheels and metre sticks to measure the astro turf and making graphs analysing which smartie colour is the most popular in the tube!

English Procedural Writing:

In term 2 we have been exploring procedural writing, how to structure a recipe and the importance of choosing appropriate bossy verbs. So far, we have made apple crumble, butter and pizza! Integrating baking and English makes learning so tasty!

Gaeilge – Tráth na gCéist

I rith seachtain na Gaeilge chuamar go dtí seamora ranga Rang a Dó agus ghlacamar páirt I Tráth na gCéist. Bhí an spóirt agus spraoi againn.

Science:

Throughout the year we have conducted various experiments across different strands. In October we completed the skittles and warm water test. We have also explored magnets and tested different materials in our classroom. During STEM week we went on a famous scientist trail around the school. We learned lots of new facts about famous scientists!

Geography:

The outdoor classroom is a firm favourite of ours. We have gone on autumn, winter and spring walks in the locality. This term we are also planting sunflowers.

Art:

Every Friday we let our creative juices flow. Recently we constructed spring flowers using a variety of coloured card and buttons.

Music:

Every Wednesday we take park in Music Generation with Karen. We are learning how to play the Glockenspiel. A lot of us play music outside of school. During the recent Ceolchoirm a few of us formed a band with instruments including the banjo, the violin, the guitar and the spoons!

World Book Day:

On World Book Day we enjoyed dressing up as our favourite character from books we love. We loved sharing our favourite books with our friends.
