We recently held a debate in the G.P. room where 5th class students debated on two motions: ‘World Hunger Will be Eliminated by 2030’ and ‘Primary School Children Under 12 Should Not Have a Mobile Phone’. Each team had a captain and three other speakers who spoke on the opposition or proposition for their motion. It was interesting to hear both sides arguments and points. Though the scores were extremely close there had to be a winner from each debate but a huge well done to all speakers. A big thank you also to our judges, chairperson, timekeeper and the other classes who were our audience on the day.
Every year we raise funds for a charity at Christmas. This year 6th Class and the Parents’ Association joined together to help fundraise €250 towards charity. All pupils and teachers were asked to wear their Christmas jumpers to school and donate €1 to charity.
All our 6th class pupils were then asked to write a persuasive piece of text about a worthy charity. After listening to all the various deserving charities, the 6th Class pupils then held a vote and decided to donate the money to “Help The Homeless”.
Well done to all involved!
We decorated pine cones for Christmas and it was lots of fun. We got pine cones and then we brought them into class to paint them. They had lots of different colours and plenty of glitter!
We brought in old socks and made sock snowmen with elastic bands. We cut off part of the sock and used it to make a cute hat. Some people used glue to stick on eyes on their snowmen and buttons on the body of their snowmen.
Take a look at the finished product here!

We hosted a chess match with Bunscoil Loreto this afternoon in the General Purpose Room. We had a total of 52 children playing chess and having fun. Well done to all our students from 3rd to 6th class who participated. We really enjoyed hosting Mr Nimmo and the Bunscoil Loreto team. We hope to play a return leg in Term 2. It was great to see students engaged in a real battle of strategy and of the mind. Please see some of the photographs below. Chess club is open for new members!
A huge well done to all our students who completed the MS Readathon 2019. This challenge was a 30 day reading challenge to encourage as many students as possible to read as many books as possible over the course of the month. Whilst reading, our students also managed to raise a whopping €1100 for MS Ireland- a very worthy cause. Well done and keep up the reading!
It’s that time of year again- Active Advent is back. The Active School Committee have created calendars for each class to complete in the run up to Christmas. Each day there is a simple exercise for the children to do in their classroom or outside.
We are also enjoying our Tuesday and Thursday morning ‘Wake up, Shake up’ routines to music.
A chairde, our school will be celebrating its Jubilee year in 2020. We are hoping to publish a Jubilee Book of memories stretching back to the very first day in the new school. We need your help in gathering information, photographs etc. Please spread the word to all your family, friends and past pupils wherever they may be around the world. Please send any and all correspondence to firstname.lastname@example.org or contact the school directly. This is a novel way to help celebrate our school and the history attached to it.
Well done to all our pupils who have submitted entries for the Toy Show auditions this year. Ms Byrne has been busily organising groups and performances. Best wishes to all and keep up the interest. Great to see such an interest in music and performance amongst the pupils. Click on the image above to see a sample of our auditions .
