An Bhratach Náisiúnta

Presentation of “An Bhratach Náisiúnta” to the school.

Monday November 16th was a very special day for our school and the wider school community. The school hosted an official visit from Óghlaigh na hÉireann as part of the Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme. Two members of the Defence Forces, Lieutenant Flood and Private MacNeill visited the school and presented the Tri Colour and a copy of the Proclamation of Independence to our school.

Tadhg Baxter (6th Class) assisted them in reading aloud the Proclamation of Independence, also the oldest and youngest students in our school, Greg Wynne and Paul Crimmons accepted the Tri Colour on behalf of the school. Lieutenant Flood then spoke to the children about how we should care for the flag, he also explained about life in the army and the significance of his uniform. Lieutenant Flood then answered questions about his job in the army before everyone sang our national anthem, Amhrán na bhFiann. Bhí lá iontach ag gach duine, La a mbeidh cuimhne air!
